Transporting 75,000 passengers daily, the Staten Island Ferry network is one of the busiest in the world.
The New York City Department of Transportation wanted to provide reliable connectivity for passengers in its two, Staten Island and Manhattan terminals and across the nine-vessel fleet.
The NYC DOT selected Neutral Connect Networks in 2015 to design and install a Wi-Fi system. Since then, the partnership and service have expanded to include a DAS solution and upgrades to the Wi-Fi network.
The Ruckus Wi-Fi system leverages 141 APs, 108 of which host a leased SSID for Charter Communications, supporting a throughput potential of 400 Mbps to the ferryboats.
The JMA DAS currently supports AT&T and is capable of supporting additional carriers.
